Istanbul, 1923

The occupation is crumbling. The streets are silent.

A leprosy-like plague has turned the living into undeads: slow, relentless, and lethal.

Imperial Ottoman BankGalata, 1923

You are RJ Edwards, a British banking official sent to the Imperial Ottoman Bank on a promotion you never wanted. Shortly after you arrive, you find yourself in an abandoned office: crooked ledgers, scattered notes, a brass nameplate still bearing your predecessor's name. Rain pounds the windows. Gunfire echoes outside. The radio advises calm.

Three days later, the gunfire stops. The radios fall silent. When you step into the corridor, the city has collapsed.

The city

Historical architecture turned nightmare.

Real locations from 1920s Istanbul, reimagined in an alternate history where a plague collapses the occupied city. Flooded vaults, candlelit archives, stone corridors that once safeguarded an empire now hold only the infected.

  • The Imperial Ottoman Bank
  • The Basilica Cistern
  • Galata's alleys
  • Sirkeci Station
  • Real weapons, real weight.

Crisp ADS gunplay with historical weapons: a reliable pistol, a bolt-action rifle, a rare lever-action shotgun and more. Ammo is scarce. Headshots matter. Body shots buy you seconds.

  • They behave like broken people.

They do not explode or mutate. Some panic. Some charge. A bullet to the knee is not cosmetic. Enemies stumble, collapse, or are permanently crippled.

  • There is no clean kill.

Up close, violence is unavoidable. Blood sprays, bodies collapse, and the silence returns.

  • No HUD. No mercy.

No waypoints. No hand-holding. No safety nets. Every shot counts. Every reload is a risk.

  • Just logic and observation.

Restore power by hunting fusebox pieces. Find keys hidden in jacket pockets, behind paintings, and inside desk drawers. Every drawer opens, unless it's locked.

  • History hides in plain sight.

The bank is filled with traces of lives left behind. Photographs, letters, and artifacts tell stories for those willing to listen.

Frequently asked questions

The questions our community asks most, answered by the team. Undead Chronicles is still in development, so details may change.

Gameplay

Is there melee combat?

No. Undead Chronicles is strictly firearms. RJ Edwards is a bank official who has been trapped in a room for three days. He is weak, hungry, and no action hero, so fighting off crowds with fists or a bat would not fit the character.

Plenty of games already do melee well. We would rather go all-in on gunplay than ship a watered-down version of everything. Count your shots and keep your distance.

Is it a stealth or run-and-hide horror game?

No. This is not a run-and-hide horror game, and it is not a stealth game. Gunfire wakes everything nearby and pulls it toward you. That tension is the core of the experience.

Will the guns jam?

It is not a priority, though it is not off the table. Jamming sounds great on paper, but in practice it often feels frustrating and random. To work, it needs careful placement, solid programming, and strong animation behind it.

We are exploring clumsier weapon handling instead. RJ has no weapon training, so fumbled reloads and unsteady handling get the same idea across without punishing the player at random.

How does looting work?

Grounded and realistic. There are no loot bags to shoot down, no obvious loot patterns, and no yellow markers or highlight colors. Looting means searching the environment carefully.

Our goal is for every drawer to open, performance permitting. Players should be able to sense where ammo would be without the game pointing at it.

No HUD at all? How do I know what to do?

There is no HUD during gameplay: no numbers, no text, no on-screen distractions. The aim is a hardcore, cinematic experience. There is still an inventory and a weapon selection, similar to The Last of Us.

Guidance comes from RJ himself, who mutters hints under his breath, much like The Last of Us Part II does. We know this approach is not for everyone, and we are comfortable with that.

Are there survival mechanics like food, water or meds?

There is no med system and no health bar. Food and water mechanics are not planned either. The design is not final, so this may change.

The game

Open world or linear?

Linear, by design. Escape the building, then escape the city. The levels are tight and handcrafted. For a small team, a linear structure is what lets us push visuals and atmosphere as far as we can.

There are no missions or objective lists. You are a man trying to get out of a dead city, and the levels are the story.

Is there replayability or permadeath?

Undead Chronicles is built first as a complete, one-and-done experience. There is no permadeath, but the game is hardcore. We have ideas for replayability, including an optional permadeath mode, but nothing is confirmed and it is not the focus.

Levels will not be procedural. If players come back, we want it to be because the combat holds up.

What are the inspirations?

Resident Evil 2, Bloodborne, The Last of Us, Zombi, and COD Zombies, approached on an indie budget. Compared to Zombi, Undead Chronicles is more linear, darker, and closer to Resident Evil.

One guiding idea was the opening section of Yharnam, rebuilt as a first-person shooter with zombies in a more linear world. Half-Life 1, 2, and the episodes are an influence as well.

Are there collectibles and easter eggs?

Yes. Hidden collectibles and a large number of inspectable objects are planned for players who like to study the environment. Most are optional, but you will not survive long without looting. Easter eggs are planned too.

Cutscenes and quick time events?

First-person cutscenes are planned. Do not expect quick time events in the style of RE4, RE5, or RE6. If any appear, they will be few and unobtrusive.

What about music and voice acting?

We are not using royalty-free music. The music is original and experimental, so do not expect a full traditional soundtrack.

Dialogue is minimal: radio announcements, RJ talking to himself, and possibly a few interactions that are still to be decided.

Is a sequel planned?

Undead Chronicles has our full focus right now. That said, the story we have written does not fit in one game.

Release and tech

Which platforms? Is it coming to consoles?

PC is our focus. A PS5 version is possible, but it depends on a third-party partnership, as a console port is not something our small team can handle in-house. Switch 2 is not technically impossible, but it is not planned.

Will it be a paid game?

Yes. Undead Chronicles is a premium single-player game with no online content. It is too early to talk about price.

Will there be a playtest? How do I get in?

We expect to run a closed beta with a small group before anything public. We are still testing core systems and need focused feedback first. It will be an early, raw version of the beginning of the game.

The purpose is to test the design concept, performance, and stability, so recording will not be allowed for this one. An application form is in the works. Follow our Discord for news.

Will it run on my PC?

System requirements are not final. The RTX 3080 is the recommended spec, not the minimum. We are optimistic about lower-end hardware: there is no open world and no Nanite. The game does rely on Lumen, and we are evaluating Lumen Lite, which should help older cards considerably. We will publish real numbers once the game has been properly profiled.
